There are quite a few people who have made this beautiful nightmare a reality and the two I want to acknowledge the most is Mike K. from AVAS and Eric B.
Everyone who can does put a V8 into a Pinto. I chose a different path in 2010. I found a carbureted 2.3 turbo in Ellensburg Washington and bought it for more than I paid for the car initially, $600.00. We went with an MSD ignition 6-BTM, an MSD Pro Billet Distributor and an MSD Blaster II Coil. The C3 Automatic was rebuilt with a master kit, an upgraded converter and an SK shift kit. While it made it more drivable the endgame was always going to be a T-5 swap. If you break the car down by year we have the following:
1977 - Pinto Cruising Wagon
1979 - 2.3 Carbureted Turbo from a mercury Capri RS (Fox Body)
1983 - Transmission - T5 - 1983 Ford Mustang GT Turbo (Fox Body)
1974 - Clutch Pedal and Clutch Cable from a Mustang II
2004 - T5 Short shifter from a Mustang GT
